Sometimes the actual repair is very simple – it’s all about knowing where to look. iPhone 8 Plus with a dead rear camera. Step 1 is to test the phone with a known good camera and as little plugged in as possible. Problem was definitely on the motherboard.

The camera connectors were flawless, however measuring at the connector I determined PP_CAM_VCM_PVDD_CONN was short to ground. Turns out a capacitor on the rear side of the phone was visibly blown out. Remove, replace, and camera works again!
